The Peaceful Liberation of the Holy Places in the XIV CenturyI - 1 Jewish-Christian Period (33-135)
In this first period there were no great sacred structures in the Holy Land. Rather, there were ordinary, simple structures owned by private parties. The early Christians gathered in these kinds of places. These early Christians had their roots in either Judaism or international paganism. The early Christians prayed in these private homes. They also received instructions about the life of Christ and his teachings in lectures given by teachers of the Scriptures. The first Christians were not exempt from harassment and tyranny at the hands of their fellow-countrymen.(*1)
*1 - We are able to find some allusions to the first experiences of opposition to the Early Church in the Apocryphal Books. For example: regarding the Adoration of the Cross, the "Doctrine of Addai" and the "Armenian Synaxarium" of the Fourth Century tell how Queen Protonice, the wife of Emperor Claudius, forced the Jewish authorities of Jerusalem to give back the Holy Places to the Apostle James the Lesser, who was bishop of Jerusalem (B. Bagatti - E. Testa, Il Golgota e la Croce, Jerusalem 1978, 76-78).
