SOPHRONIUS OF JERUSALEM (ca. 600 A.D.)

|
According to a tradition, originating in apocryphal writings (Transitus Virginis), Mary lived during 14 years or so, after the death and resurrection of her son, in the same house where Jesus performed the Last Supper and the Holy Spirit descended. Her death is called in latin "Transitus" or "Dormitio", from where comes the name of the church. The building was erected at the beginning of the 20th Cent., adjacent to the Cenacle, which was then used as a mosque. It belongs to the Catholics and is served by a community of Benedictines monks of German origin.
