This year the parish of Saint Saviour in Jerusalem has taken care to organize activities during the holidays of the Christian (Catholic and non-Catholic) children of the Old City, in order to give a service to their formation during the long summer months. The parish organized two school camps: one at Beit Hanina and another one in the Old City of Jerusalem.

The children who participated were about 300. Their ages varied from 4 to 14 years. Every morning they would gather at the Terra Santa College at Saint Saviour, or at the parish centre at Beit Hanina, where they would participate in games, as well as in catechism classes and other recreational activities.

Once a week they would go for one day out to swim and relax. During the last week the parish priest celebrated a solemn Mass where he reminded the parents regarding their important role as Christian educators in their families.

For the first time this year, a more intense programme was organized at Beit Hanina for young adolescents (14 year olds) during their Sunday school.

Every week they would go on pilgrimage: to Saint John's at Ain Karem, to Saint John in the Desert, to Saint Peter in Jaffa, where they also stayed for one night. The aim of these pilgrimages is that of educating the young people in the love for the Holy Land, where salvation history became a reality, and which is also their land.

The Franciscan friars of the Holy Land feel it is their duty to thank so many kind persons who gave their material support to this initiative. Without the solidarity of our benefactors we would not have been able to make this initiative work as it did. We would also like to thank our Franciscan brothers who have welcomed us with great generosity and joy in the various Franciscan houses we visited.
