FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In response to statements to the contrary, the Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land today denied requesting or supporting the destruction of buildings next to their property in Bethphage.
The Franciscans said the demolition is not being done on property owned or controlled by the Franciscans, and is not the result of any action by the Custody of the Holy Land.
The Very Reverend Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, O.F.M., Custos of the Holy Land stated, “We have always attempted, and hopefully mostly succeeded, to preserve good relations with out neighbors wherever we have a presence in the Holy Land.”
“It would not be in our interests, nor is it our intent to cause damage or loss to those with whom we live side by side. It is our hope that disputes of this nature can be peacefully and amicably resolved by the parties involved,” the Custos concluded.
