On 27 December Brother Diego Madera, a Franciscan friar from the province of Saints Francis and James in Mexico, was ordained a deacon. The Ordination Mass was presided by His Beatitude Michel Sabbah, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. The candidate for the ordination was presented by Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Custos of the Holy Land. The community of formation and the his fellow students accompanied Brother Diego. Present for the celebration were also Diego's mother and his three sisters.
